Getting outside, breathing in the fresh air, feeling the sun and breeze on your face, listening to the sounds of the buzzing bees, the grasshoppers, the birds and the whispering of the trees really helps to ground us and release tension and ease any suffering. For mental and physical well-being, it's important to get outside and connect with nature. Being in the garden and getting my hands into the soil, the feeling and the smell of the earth. The enjoyment of digging, weeding, sowing, planting and growing. There is nothing more satisfying and rewarding than picking your own fruits and vegetables that you have grown. The fruits and vegetables that have been loved and nurtured look different and taste different and gives a huge sense of achievement.
Like painting, its not necessarily easy, it takes investment of time and patience and there are inevitably small disasters. As with painting, sometimes things don't go so well. However, you have to move on, keep going and persevere. With time your wisdom grows and learning expands and then comes the rewards. It's a feeling of, "I did that." We are built to thrive and through gardening, growing, art and exploring nature, it releases me into a reality where I feel calm and content. I found an anonymous quote, "Gardening is cheaper than therapy and you get tomatoes." This made me smile and hopefully it will make you smile to. Happy growing.
